The PTTU considers all aspects of public, patient and community engagement during the life span of our research studies right from the beginning when setting the research question through to delivery and dissemination.

Patient Research Ambassadors (PRAs)

In Portsmouth, our Patient Research Ambassadors (PRAs) are patients, carers or members of the public with a passion for health research who help local patients and the wider community to have a greater understanding of the research opportunities available within PHT and the PTTU.

PPI Facilitator

Working closely with our PPI Facilitator, the PRA group influence study design and delivery to ensure the patient voice is heard. The group also supports wider dissemination through information and community events and social media.

Increased engagement

Ways in which we have increased engagement with research include holding research awareness events on Saturdays for specific groups of patients, running research clinics in the evenings outside of normal working hours and attending specific networking events.

Supporting trials and research in healthcare and medical technologies

The Portsmouth Technologies Trials Unit (PTTU) is a collaboration between Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of Portsmouth. Launched in spring 2018, the unit specialises in running research studies, including clinical trials in new healthcare technologies.

We work in collaboration with academics, healthcare professionals and industry to develop and deliver high quality research projects. We specialise in working with small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and have a growing portfolio of trials and research studies, reflecting our local research expertise and the needs of our patients.
